No dedicated germination table was found for shallots. Follow your supplier's instructions and the onion page for seed.
Sowing
Most shallots are planted as bulbs in autumn or early spring, tip just at the surface. Seed-grown varieties exist; treat them like onions.
Care and transplanting
Keep weeded and stop watering as the tops fall over, then cure in a dry airy place.
Problems
Rot is wet soil. Shallots bolt after a cold snap while small.
Saving seed
Save your best bulbs to replant.
