True lilies have no protective skin, so plant promptly and never let the bulbs dry out. Plant at about 2 to 3 times their height (NYBG's general rule).

Cut stems to leave leaves to feed the bulb.

Problems

Red lily beetles eat leaves; hand-pick. Botrytis spots leaves in damp seasons.

Saving seed

Scales and bulblets give new plants.
