Potatoes are propagated by tubers. CSU gives only the minimum soil temperature and days to harvest.
Sowing
Plant certified seed potatoes (small tubers or cut pieces with eyes) once soil is workable and at least 45°F (7°C). True botanical seed from the berries exists but gives variable plants and takes an extra season.
Care and transplanting
Hill soil around the stems as they grow. Keep tubers covered so they do not turn green.
Problems
Green tubers are toxic and come from light exposure; bury or discard. Plants dying early is normal at maturity (about 125 days in CSU's table).
Saving seed
Save small, healthy tubers for next year only if your plants were disease-free; buy certified seed potatoes otherwise.
