Sowing
Direct-sow from spring through summer; dill has a taproot and dislikes transplanting. Seed needs light, so cover very lightly.
Care and transplanting
Stake tall plants and sow a little every few weeks for fresh leaves.
Problems
Slow, patchy germination is old seed or a dry surface. Dill cross-breeds with fennel, which spoils the flavour.
Saving seed
Seed heads ripen in late summer; cut and dry in a paper bag.
